A barcode formatting using labels with black and white strips and bars that are read by corresponding laser scanners to identify products in retail sales, inventory tracking, and shipping. The UPC code is used widely in the United States and the UK. Along with the related EAN barcoding standard, the UPC data structures follow the global GS1 standards.
